Kartschoke’s Magic in the Mediterranean ~ Day 9 Palma/Mallorca

August 19 2011, Sunny & Hot 90 degrees

This morning we ate a sit down breakfast at Parrot Cay where we got to be served by our night time servers.  Our main server, Green, made us all special hats out of napkins,  can you guess what each of us was?

The trip we booked for today was a half day excursion to the local Marineland aquarium. Here they gave us a special behind the scenes talk about the sea turtles that they rehabilitate. After the private tour we got to see the sea lion and dolphin show.  DSC01455DSC01456DSC01459DSC01464DSC01468DSC01472DSC01474

After touring the park and seeing some more marine life as well as some birds we got an added bonus to go to the local beach which is directly behind Marineland where we got to go into the Mediterranean again.DSC01477  Also we had to get some gelato here as well to cool us off.

Sadly the next day we ate early at Animators Pallet and took a bus to the airport.  Everyone was sad to leave the Disney Magic and to have this trip end. Crying face The flight home was uneventful, although long.  We decided to spend the night in the Montreal hotel that had our car before heading home the day after.

Kartschoke’s Magic in the Mediterranean ~ Day 8 Day at Sea

August 18 2011 – Sunny & High of 86

Today was our day at sea so we explored the ship a lot. In the morning Paul went for a run before we all went to a sit down breakfast at Lumierrs. After breakfast Alexa went to The Edge kids club and Jared went to The Oceaneers Lab kids club.  Since the kids were occupied Michele and Paul went to the the latest pirates movie,  Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides.  Overall the movie was good with tons of action scenes.

DSC01410We played some shuffleboard and did some swimming before grabbing lunch at the food places around the pool. After lunch we just had to order some cookies & milk from room service, yummy.  Jared & Alexa played some more at their kids clubs and since Jared was part of the Oceaneers club he got to perform with the rest of the kids on the big stage in a little show they called friendship rocks.DSC01412DSC01428DSC01420DSC01421The rest of the day was relaxing by the pool or on the veranda.  We had dinner at Lumiers and then went to the evening show called Disney Dreams.  This show is very good with some good Broadway effects. After dinner we went to the kids arcade to play a few games including air hockey.DSC01431

Kartschoke’s Magic in the Mediterranean ~ Day 7 Naples/Pompeii

August 17 2011 – Sunny & Hot High of 88

Today we had another early tour planned, but this was a good idea since we were going to Pompeii and it can get very hot there. We went to topsiders to grab breakfast at the buffet and then on deck we were able to see Naples & Mt Vesuvius.  It seems strange that so many people live so close to this active volcano which last erupted in 1945.

We next took a bus trip over to Pompeii. Once we got to Pompeii we stopped at some shops to get some gelato, it was included with the tour. We learned about  cameos jewelry ( it is made of shells) that is made here as well as saw a very big lemon.  We then started our walking tour of Pompeii.  It was a local port town until in 79AD when mount Vesuvius erupted and covered the city but it also preserved much of the stone buildings.  All of the roofs were burned away.DSC01298

Since they used the streets as plumbing to get rid of water, and other stuff, they used these steps for cross-walks. Also the stones had spaces to allow the carriages to pass through.

This bakery was well preserved. You can see where they would turn the mills.

After our tour Alexa and Jared went on the Disney water slide and did some swimming while we all watched some of the chicken little movie on the big screen next to the pool.  Alexa then went to the Edge to do their “let’s make Crepes” activity but Alexa thinks it just turned into let’s eat Crepes. Next we pulled out our pirate dinner outfits since it was Pirate Night on the ship.  We ate dinner at Parrot Cay restaurant where we got some pirate bandanas to wear for the Pirates IN the Caribbean Deck party that was happening later.  Before we hit the deck party we 1st had to try out our dance moves at the Pirate Dance Party that was happening at the Rockin’ Bar D stage, Chip n’ Dale even came out to help dance.

DSC01363

DSC01369After the dance party we saw a unique show called Sabrina & Blub where 2 Germans had an act where they performed with bubbles, ropes & finished with some good juggling.  Next it was time for the pirate deck party where we danced for a bit and then the pirates took over the stage but finally Mickey slide down and saved the day.  They finished the party with fireworks launched from the ship.   DSC01374
